ALBANY, NY – In its first-ever awards, Architectural Record selected Emma Willard School’s Alice Dodge Wallace ’38 Center for the Performing Arts as one of the year’s best built or unbuilt projects. Designed by Annum Architects and delivered by Consigli Construction Co., Inc., the project was recognized in the Performing Spaces category and is one of just 14 honorees worldwide.

To bring Emma Willard School’s vision to life, Consigli transformed one of the oldest buildings on campus, Alumnae Chapel, into a state-of-the-art hub for the creative and performing arts with the capacity to – for the first time in decades – accommodate the entire school community in one space.

While maintaining its historic character and preserving its one-of-a-kind baroque organ, Consigli led a full-gut renovation of the century-old chapel, upgrading functionality and modernizing the space with enhanced acoustics and technology. Consigli also restored the chapel’s limestone façade and completed a full replacement of its slate roof, as well as the wood trusses that support the chapel’s vaulted ceilings.

Additionally, a new subterranean arts wing was built adjacent to the existing chapel to expand resources for theater, music and dance. Equipped with flexible studios, rehearsal spaces and a black box theater, the new space is housed beneath an accessible green roof that blends seamlessly into the campus landscape.

PORTLAND, MAINE – In recognition of her industry achievement and impact on the local Maine community, Senior Project Manager Christina Consigli has been recognized on the 2025 Mainebiz 40 Under 40 List. This annual award recognizes outstanding young professionals and rising stars in Maine’s business community.

“Professionally, as a builder, completing a complex and complicated project that I know will have a significant impact on the community and help create more opportunities for Maine and families like mine, is what I am most proud of.”

With more than a decade of diverse industry experience, Christina has helped deliver some of Maine’s most complex projects, including those that have helped transform local academic resources for current and future students. On Colby College’s campus, Christina played a key role in the delivery of both the Johnson Pond Houses – a new, four-building student residence hall – as well as the Gordon Center for Creative and Performing Arts, which unites and strengthens the regional Waterville arts community.

Currently, Christina is leading the Consigli project team building a new, permanent home in Portland for the Roux Institute at Northeastern University through the creation of its new Alfond Center. Once complete, the campus will serve as a hub for innovation and research, as well as drive sustained economic growth in Maine.

“I’ve realized that it matters much less what you do with your life and much more about who you do it with. Construction is all about working with a team to build something great. On many of our projects, we have hundreds if not thousands of people who help the project come together, and there is nothing more fulfilling than working with other like-minded individuals to build a lasting impact on the community. Every day I’m motivated to be the best person I can be, not just for myself, but for my team.”

An active member of her personal and professional community, Christina is a committed advocate for local workforce development and efforts to build a stronger, more diverse industry. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Mitchell Institute, an organization aimed at increasing educational opportunities for Maine students, as well as on the Board of Directors for Hardy Girls, which partners with local youth to create a more equitable society.

Honorees are selected from a variety of industries to make up a class of young leaders who share a commitment to business success, personal growth and a passion for strengthening the Maine communities where they live and work.

PORTLAND, ME – In recognition of its building achievement and excellence in renovation, Consigli Construction Co., Inc. has received a 2025 Build Maine Award for its work on East Brown Cow’s historic Thompson Block in downtown Portland. Honored as one of the best projects of the year by the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Maine in the Building Renovation Division, this accomplishment represents the second time in three years that Consigli has received the category’s top award.

“Thompson Block’s transformative renovation has set a new benchmark for excellence in adaptive reuse of historic properties in Maine. Consigli was honored to collaborate with East Brown Cow and a team of dedicated trade partners – including our exceptional self-perform staff – to bring renewed vitality to a renowned building in the Old Port,” said Dave Thomas, Regional Director – Maine at Consigli Construction Co., Inc. “The craftsmanship showcased throughout 121 Middle Street is a testament to the skill, artistry and dedication of the trades, reinforcing their essential role in shaping Maine’s future.”

“Our mission at East Brown Cow extends beyond preservation; we seek to uplift the Old Port, ensuring every project we undertake is as beautiful as it is historically significant,” said Tim Soley, President and CEO of East Brown Cow. “The renovation of 121 Middle Street was no exception – it was an ambitious undertaking requiring not only technical expertise but also a shared passion for thoughtful design and urban revitalization. A centerpiece was the transformation of the top floor into lofts for The Docent’s Collection, a boutique hospitality offering where visitors and locals alike can enjoy this architectural gem up close.”

121 Middle Street – known as Thompson Block – is a Second Empire-style building on the National Register of Historic Places that serves as one of Maine’s most notable Victorian commercial structures. To convert the historic office building into short-term luxury residential units and retail space, Consigli self-performed interior masonry restoration work and extensive structural repairs while maintaining the building’s historic character and integrity. Historic windows, storefronts and doors that had been infilled over time were meticulously recreated to revive the building’s original design. The adaptive reuse of the existing building structure also meaningfully supported East Brown Cow’s commitment to environmental stewardship and historic preservation.

Consigli made critical upgrades to improve functionality and accessibility, including a complete replacement of the existing elevator system from an aged, hydraulic system to an electric traction system. To support modernization work in an occupied building within an existing space, Consigli engaged design-build subcontractor partners during preconstruction to effectively and efficiently navigate the complicated scope of work required.

Thompson Block marks the third project partnership for Consigli and East Brown Cow on Middle Street. In addition to 121 Middle Street, Consigli is currently renovating two historic buildings located at 178 & 184 Middle Street.

Annual Build Maine winners are selected through a competitive, confidential process where they are evaluated by representatives of design, engineering, construction and owner perspectives. Judgement criteria include safety, innovation and construction techniques/materials, contribution to the community, meeting the challenge of a difficult job, environmental sensitivity, responsiveness to client needs and customer satisfaction.
