And elsewhere in the Northeast, too, including working with Tishman Speyer on the expansion of Harvard’s campus into dozens of acres of Boston.”

The profile also highlighted how Consigli’s significant expansion in New York and New Jersey has bolstered the firm’s footprint and leadership in a deeply competitive market.

“It expanded the company’s role in the nation’s largest commercial real estate market, where it had already led construction on residential projects for Extell, Brookfield and other developers, as well as commercial, educational and health care work for the likes of Columbia University and the city itself — never mind the ongoing renovation of Harlem’s famed Apollo Theater.”

Additionally, Anthony provided insight into some of the industry’s most pressing topics, such as skilled labor shortages and the rise of AI, and how Consigli teams stay flexible and proactive in their approach to building a stronger workforce.

“But AI right now is a tool — just like technology is a tool. You still have to know how to build. You still have to know how to maintain a relationship. You still have to know how to work safely. AI and all other technology are tools in your toolbelt to help you to do that better. So, AI is allowing us to do more faster, if you will, and it may be a little bit better.”

Building on Consigli’s 120-year-old legacy, Anthony also pointed toward the market sectors where he sees opportunities for continued development and growth, such as in advanced technology with data center work, as well as with the firm’s energy division as more clients focus on reducing rising energy costs.

“The market where we’re trying to develop and grow is energy. We have a division here called Arch Energy — decarbonization projects, energy efficiency, doing a lot of geothermal wells…We’re seeing work in battery storage because we don’t have enough electricity to supply our grid, especially with the advent of AI and data centers.”

Moran detailed the ways in which Consigli is utilizing AI tools – alongside its in-house VDC team’s use of fixed cameras, drones and 360-degree documentation – to augment their safety analysis capabilities and enhance operational efficiency. Most notably, Consigli has been beta-testing DroneDeploy’s Safety AI platform, which serves as an additional way for project teams to identify hazards and mitigate risks before they can occur.

“We are also exploring AI, machine learning and text bots to streamline the collection and management of safety-related data, such as training records, certifications and materials tracking to better improve and inform our safety operations.”

Earlier this year, Consigli’s operational excellence was featured by Construction Dive during Safety Week, where Corporate Safety Director Bryan Kingsbury provided his insight on how AI has helped bolster the firm’s safety capabilities.

“As technology and AI continues to develop, we’ve been intentional about staying innovative in our approach to safety so that we can stay ahead of the curve and make sure our teams are equipped with state-of-the-art resources.”

Alongside other industry leaders, Kingsbury provided insight into some of Consigli’s most innovative methods of safety management. Additionally, he highlighted how the firm – in coordination with its in-house Virtual Design & Construction Team (VDC) – have been using new technology and AI resources on projects.

“Using drones flown by our VDC team, we can conduct virtual safety walks for high-reach and higher-risk areas, like roofs and site perimeters, which allows us to inspect and improve areas that aren’t easily accessible. We’re also using a new AI tool to analyze images taken of our jobsites, identify safety hazards and make corrective recommendations in an efficient and effective way.”

He also detailed how these new and emerging technologies will continue to enhance Consigli’s safety operations and enable teams to set new standards for safety to provide long-term benefits and improvements.

“With AI and cutting-edge VDC solutions, issues with site access, PPE, material storage and more can all be quickly identified — and resolved — by Consigli teams.”
