This 50,000-sq-ft facility redefines creative learning spaces with a 550-seat auditorium, 100-seat black box theater, rehearsal and instructional areas, flexible computer science classrooms, and the school’s first art gallery. The building also features a senior painting studio, digital media labs, and a soaring atrium that connects all levels.

Delivering this complex project required overcoming significant site challenges, including excavating more than 15,000 cubic yards of granite and installing over 300 rock nails for stabilization, while minimizing disruption to campus operations.

The structure’s unique curvature and three massive cantilevers demanded 700 tons of steel—double the typical tonnage for a building of this size. Acoustic performance was also prioritized throughout the five-story building, incorporating layered soundproofing, STC-rated doors and specialized flooring to ensure optimal sound quality and control.

Additionally, the Allen Center achieved LEED Gold certification and incorporates innovative sustainability features including a unique rainwater harvesting system that supports irrigation for the building’s green roof – enhancing the campus ecosystem – while also functioning as a sound-dampening element of the new theater.

In addition to this award, Consigli also received an Award of Merit in the Renovation/Restoration category for its work with New York Blood Center Enterprises on its new campus, as well as the top project award in the K-12 Education category for Emma Willard School’s Alice Dodge Wallace ’38 Center for the Performing Arts.

Project teams recognized by ENR’s panel of judges were evaluated on their ability to overcome challenges, contribute to industry innovation and benefit the community, as well as overall excellence in design, construction and safety execution.

Best Companies to Work for in New York is a research-driven program that examines a company’s practices, programs and benefits and also surveys its employees for their perspectives. Through this evaluation, Best Companies to Work for in New York identifies, recognizes and honors the best places of employment in New York in three categories: small companies, medium companies and large companies.

Consigli was honored as a large company and was recognized for its commitment to creating an environment where people love to come to work. Rankings were determined using a two-part survey process, which assessed information provided by employers about benefits, policies, practices and other general data, as well as an evaluation of employees’ workplace experience.

In addition to benefits supporting the physical and mental health of employees and their families, Consigli also provides its employees with paid volunteer time, generous 401K matching, fitness reimbursement and wellness incentives, summer Fridays, parental leave and a culture that encourages work life balance. Participants, including members of the Consigli project team, subcontractors, and project stakeholders, came together to donate blood and support the life-saving work done by NYBC and its efforts to ensure sufficient blood supplies for patients in-need.

“Yesterday’s blood drive was a success with 32 donations and we’re grateful for Consigli Construction Co., Inc.’s support,” said Andrea Cefarelli, Senior VP of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs for New York Blood Center Enterprises. “Not only is Consigli helping us replenish the blood supply, they are working with us to build a new campus that will enable life-saving research, blood processing, and cell therapy manufacturing, fulfilling our mission to provide healthcare worldwide.”

The new, multipurpose NYBCe campus in Rye broke ground in June 2023, and when complete, will be the future home to NYBC’s tri-state operations, including space for life sciences research, blood collections, distribution warehouse, processing and cell therapy manufacturing. It will also house the organization’s world-renowned Research Institute and research laboratories. The 187,000 sq. ft. will serve as the first-ever single campus for NYBC.

Construction remains underway and is expected to complete by the end of the year.

Bill joins Consigli with over 30 years of construction industry experience developing and overseeing business operations, client relationships and strategic growth initiatives in the healthcare, life sciences and cultural markets. In his new role, he will lead the development and growth of the Tri-state region business operations. In addition to his depth and experience in the healthcare and life sciences markets, Bill will further build on Consigli’s presence with the independent school, corporate and assisted living markets in the region.
